“Fingerprint Fee Was Received”: what it means
Updated October 27, 2026 · Checked against USCIS sources
USCIS recorded the biometrics part of your filing. You should receive a notice for a biometrics appointment, where your fingerprints, photo and signature are taken, unless USCIS reuses ones it already has.
What it means
Biometrics let USCIS run background checks and produce cards. This status usually appears soon after “Case Was Received”. It does not mean an appointment is booked yet.
What usually comes next
What you can do
- Watch your mail for the appointment notice (Form I-797C) and bring it with a photo ID.
- If you cannot attend, follow the rescheduling instructions on the notice before the appointment date.

Questions
Do I pay a separate fingerprint fee?
For most current forms the biometrics cost is included in the filing fee. The status name is older than the fee rules.
